CC85XX-CC2590EM-RD: Sensitivity test issue

Part Number: CC85XX-CC2590EM-RD
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC2590

use CC85xxDK-headset to test sensitivity , its sensitivity is just -40~-50 dBm (SPEC is -83~-87 dBm)

P.S. it is in shielding box & use attenuator.

P.S. use CC85XX-CC2590EM-RD to test sensitivity. It is OK (-85~-87 dBm)

If use normal mode to test audio , it could transfer 40 meter range . It means device is OK , and maybe some setting is wrong

  below is test condition

     1. use CC85xxDK

     2. use PurePath Wireless Configurator tool to burn code (CC85XXDK-Headset Preloaded Demo & image type is production test)

     3. use PurePath Wireless Commander tool . use Production test to PER test RX

  • Hi Huang,

Could you elaborate a bit more on your test setup? Are you using a CC85xxDK-Headset for both the Tester and the DUT? Are the tests done conducted?

    Best regards,
    Reidar
  • Hi Sir,

The test set up as below :

    A. DUT --> CC85xxDK-Headset

    B. Tester --> CC85xx-CC2590EM-RD

    And then tests done conducted.

  • Hi Yeh Mark,

Did you program your tester (CC85xx-CC2590EM-RD) through the PurePath Wireless Commander?

    Best Regards,

    Reidar

  • Hi Reidar,

Sorry...I need to clarify what kind of tester FW you use?

Is it default from Purepath Wireless commander??

I already tried to program the tester.

And then I use the attenuator (Att  40dBm). The test result is still fail.

    The pic as below.

  • Hi Yeh Mark,

Do both PER test Rx and PER test Tx fail? On all channels? Is the result always 100?

I generated and flashed the DUT test FW through PurePath Wireless Configurator for a CC85xxDK-Headset.
If you used the default Test image in PurePath Wireless Commander I suggest you try generating a test image in PurePath Wireless Configurator according to your HW configuration and use that in commander.

    Best Regards,
    Reidar
  • Hi Reidar,
Yes. I use CC85XX-CC2590EM-RD and CC85XXDK-HEADSET to do PER test. And the attenuation value is around -40dBm. The result is 100. But if I reduce attenuation (around -20dBm). The test result is 0. But they are EVK from TI. So it is very confused to me.
  • Hi Yeh Mark,

Can you elaborate a bit more on your test setup? How and where do you connect the RF from CC85XX-CC2590EM-RD to CC85XXDK-HEADSET?

Can you go to the RX/TX Test in PurePath Wireless Commander and read out the RSSI with 20 dB and 40 dB attenuation using your test setup?

    Best Regards,
    Reidar
  • Hi Reidar,

OK~ Let me explain the test setup as below:

    Device description:

    1. CC85XX-CC2590EM-RD --> The EVK is "Tester".

    2. CC85XXDK-HEADSET --> The EVK is "Slave".

    Setup:

Tester (CC85XX-CC2590EM-RD) put on the table (open space). And then Slave (CC85XXDK-HEADSET) put in the shield box and closed the shield box .

PS. The EVKs already programed the test code.

Finally, I do the PER test.

I can do the RX/TX Test in PPW commander and read out the RSSI value. But I think the test result that have something wrong.

Please see attached the rar file.

    RF PER test picture.rar

  • Hi Yeh Mark,

    Thank you for the images.

With 0 dBm TX output power and 20 dB attenuation the RX RSSI reads around -60dBm which mean you have a ~40 dB additional loss some where in your test system (~ -80 dBm with 40 dB attenuation).

Do you have a spectrum analyzer or a RF power meter so that you can measure the RF power after the attenuator (where you connect CC85XXDK-HEADSET)? You can use the same RX/TX Test in PPW Commander to setup the TX.

Where on CC85XXDK-HEADSET do you connect your RF cable?

    Thanks,
    Reidar
  • Hi Reidar,

I had measurements before and record some data. I can share with you. I already check the setup before. I read the TX power from spectrum is normal. But I read the TX power from PPW commander (use the HS EVK). And the data is strange.

The CC85XXDK-HEADSET solder the RF cable. please see the pic as below.

  • Hi Yeh Mark,

What HW are TR in your measurements? CC85XX-CC2590EM-RD or CC85XXDK-HEADSET?
If it's CC85XX-CC2590EM-RD can you repeat the measurements with CC85XXDK-HEADSET as TR?

    Thanks,
    Reidar
  • Hi Reidar,

    The TR HW is CC85XX-CC2590EM-RD.

I use the test setup and do test several times. The test result is the same situation.

  • Hi Yeh Mark,

Can you do the same spectrum measurements with CC85XX-HEADSET as the TR HW?
We need to verify that the unexpected 20 dB loss isn't coming from this HW.

    Thanks,
    Reidar
  • Hi Reidar,

    Sorry reply too late.

I already measurement the test data.

I record the RF output power of CC85XX-HEADSET from the spectrum analyzer.

Please see attached the test data.

  • R.M is OoO so the response from him will be delayed. I will try to assign this to someone else with knowledge about the kits/SW you are using, but this might take some time due to vacation.

  • Hi Yeh Mark,

You have not connected the coax at the right place on the Headset board. The output of CC2590 is not 50 ohm, so you need to include all the matching components. You basically have to physically cut off the PCB antenna and solder the coax after the 2 shunt components.

    Cheers,
    Fredrik
