CC1021: Upgrading to CC112x

Part Number: CC1021

Hi Guys,

Using the CC1021 in my current application. To my understanding this device is active and no worries from that perspective but I have understood that it might be a good idea to look into CC112x family as well. Are there any issues from SW perspective?

- How big effort to change to CC112x if needed?

- From a quick glance of the datasheets looks like we have far better performanve wuth the 112x but please confirm.

Thanks!

  • CC112x is a more modern radio than CC1021. The sensitivity is similar, but the output power is higher for CC112x. Phase noise is better. There are more on-chip packet handling features such as automatic insertion and detection of sync word, CRC calculation and CRC check (too name a few).

If you change to CC112x you need to develop new HW as the chips are not pin-to-pin compatible. The passives are also very different (both topology and values). SW also needs to be changed as the registers are totally different. Both uses SPI interface to configure the chip so that will be the same.

There are reference designs and SW examples on the product web page. Follow these to minimize the effort to change to CC112x.
  • Thank You very much!
