CC1352P: want to work with multi-voltage domains using VDDS2/VDDS3

Part Number: CC1352P

Hello Team,

according to the datasheet in the signal descriptions table (p.9) as shown that our devices support multi-voltage domains for digital IOs using VDDS2/VDDS3

my customer wants to works with 3.3v for main power supply (VDDS) and wants to interface to digital IO 1.8v logic sensor/fpga.

after reading carefully TI's comments at the Absolute maximum ratings (p.10), you have noted that the VDDS_DCDC, VDDS2 and VDDS3 must be at the same potential as VDDS.

could you please provide some clarification about using multi-voltage domains and if our device support to be powered at 3.3v and still to have Voltage domains at 1.8v for some of the DIO.

Thanks in advance

best regards,

Shai

  • Hi Shai,

As clearly noted in the datasheet, VDDS2 and VDDS3 must be at the same potential as VDDS. The CC1352P device does not support different voltage levels on the IO segments.

  • Hi Fredrik,

In page 36 of the datasheet it is stated "Each GPIO is referenced to a specific VDDS pin."

in the technical reference manual paragraph 13.9.1.1

The digital I/O driver and receiver is a wide-supply voltage range, bidirectional buffer combining an output
buffer, an input buffer with optional hysteresis, and optional pullup and pulldown circuitry. The I/O has
limited power-management features, including support for wakeup from sleep with core power gated. The
sink and source capability of the pins are symmetrical, as shown in Figure 13-2, which gives a rough
overview of the I/O pin. Pullup and pulldown resistances are given in the data sheet.

in figure 13-2 is is clearly drawn the the supply is VDDSx

in page 1077 "Table 13-4. CC13x2 and CC26x2 DIO Power Domains" clearly states which GPIO is connected to which VDDSx

Under paragraph "5.1 Absolute Maximum Ratings" there is a comment stating "(3) VDDS_DCDC, VDDS2 and VDDS3 must be at the same potential as VDDS"

My understanding from the above is that it is possible to use different voltage supply to VDDSx that to VDDS as long as the voltage on VDDSx is lower than VDDS

    i.e. VDD = 3.8V and VDDSx = 1.8V

    Please clarify

    Thanks,

    Yehuda

  • Hi,
We have not characterized this yet on CC13x5 therefore we do not support it at the moment.
    Regards,
  • Hi,

This is odd as according to the last released datasheet and the reference manual it is supported.

The effect that it is not characterized yet is that we have to add voltage level shift which we will not need in the future

we are at final stage of developing range of products based on the CC1352P and it is very important to know when this will be characterized and ready for use.

    Regards,
    Yehuda
  • Hi Yehuda,

As you write above, the datasheet clearly states that VDDS2 and VDDS3 must be at the same potential as VDDS. The fact that the IO segments are powered from separate supply pins does not change this requirement.

Chapter 13.9.2 in the Technical Reference Manual is incorrect and will be removed in the next TRM update.

There is no plan to characterize this feature on the CC13x2 devices.

    Regards,
    Fredrik
  • Hi,

Is it possible to get info on the relation between the VDDS and the 20dBm amplifier output power?

What is the minimum VDDS for the 20dBm amplifier to work?

    Thanks,

    Yehuda

  • Hi Yehuda,

The 20 dBm amplifier will work for the whole operating voltage range. The output power is dependent on the supply voltage and will decrease for lower voltage. More details on this will be added to the CC1352P datasheet soon.

    Regards,
    Fredrik
