CC1350STK: Can't find sample applications

Part Number: CC1350STK
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC2650STK

Hi

I downloaded the simplelink_cc13x0_sdk_3_20_00_23 and I am looking at the  CC26x0SimpleLink™Bluetooth®low energySoftwareStack2.2.xDeveloper's Guide

In chapter 2.5 , there is mention of the following sample applications:

  1. simple_peripheral project
  2. simple_central project
  3. simple_broadcaster project
  4. sensortag project
  5. simple_np project
  6. simple_ap project
  7. host_test project

I can only find 1.  and 7.

Thanks

Peter

  • Hi Peter,

The blestack sample apps in CC13x0 SDK have reduced scope in later releases.

I would not recommend CC1350STK. Rather, please evaluate CC13x2 instead.

  • Hi Joakim

I happen to own the CC1350STK and I like it (:-

Because of its form factor, it is nice way to add wireless functionality to existing circuits without having to deal with designing a tricky RF board.

In fact, I plan to buy more of these , so I am interested in making the best possible use of it.

What do you mean with :

"The blestack sample apps in CC13x0 SDK have reduced scope in later releases."

My problem is that from the 7 sample apps mentioned in the developer ( which I believe also applies to the CC1350STK)

only 2 seem to be available. Is this a problem with the CC1350STK design ?

"I would not recommend CC1350STK. Rather, please evaluate CC13x2 instead."

    Why ?

    Thanks

    Peter

  • Hi Peter,

A launchpad should be even more easy to use as a wireless add-on although I do understand that the sensors add more value.

The CC2650STK and CC1350STK kits have their own SDKs, that has evolved separately.

These SDKs and platforms are not subjects for feature improvements and are currently provided as is. Minor SDK updates with bug fixes may occur, but nothing additional than that.

For future investment, we recommend the CC13x2/cc26x2 platform which is currently evolving for each quarter with improvements and rich feature set. These are part of the SimpleLink ecosystem and is currently the focus area.

  • Hi Joaqim

Launchpads are rather bulky (compared to the Sensor Tag) and not suitable for space restraint applications, so I hope to see more of the Sensor Tag kind of formfactor in the future. Even without the sensors, they make for nice add-ons to wireless-enable existiing applications.

So if I understand you correctly, you are saying: "Don't expect much support for the STKs, go for the repective LaunchPads and possibly use code from there for the SensorTags"

    Is that right ?

    Thanks

    Peter

That future may not be that far away ;)
