CC1200: Noise floor at 138MHz

Part Number: CC1200

Hello,

I have a CC1200 custom board running at 138MHz 18kbps 2-GFSK. The design is based on the 169MHz BOM with changes to the passives at the balun as advised by TI FAE.

Without any antenna connected, the background RSSI is <-120dBm. With an antenna connected, the background RSSI rises ~20dB.

I can repeat the above on TI TRXEB, using CC1200EMK-420-470 with the same modified BOM.

If I then vary the IF frequency via IF_MIX_CFG.CMIX_CFG, I can vary the rise in bacground RSSI by up to 6dB.

Thus, is the CC1200 when operating at the lower end at 138MHz, picking up significant noise generated from the CC1200 itself?

Any suggestion on how to proceed further? Please advise. Many thanks!

Regards.
