CC1352P: How to input Noise Floor into the Range Estimator Spreadsheet

Part Number: CC1352P

Hello,

I am trying to fill out the Range Estimator Spreadsheet for debugging range issues.  I am not sure what value to input for Noise Floor when it has some time-variance.  Also, the cells in the spreadsheet are color coded, -100dBm is red which seems to indicate that the spreadsheet creator thought this is "noisier than typical".  This is in the United States, suburban environment, 915MHz band, this level seems typical for me.

My application can tolerate retransmissions, so I believe using the approximate "mean" value of the noise floor would be appropriate for range calculations.  Should I call this -100dBm?

Thanks,

Arthur

  • Based on the plot I would use -100 dBm as the background noise floor for the range calculations. I would also input -80 dBm to show how the range is impacted if you try to send at the same time as you get one of the spikes going up to ~ - 80 dBm which is most likely other close by traffic on the channel you are using.
