CC1310: Light Sensor application

Hello Guys,

Good day.

Our customer is looking for an inexpensive MCU for his wireless light sensor project. The budget per unit including all passives are $6.0. The goal is a single chip with microcontroller, transmitter and receiver for European 868 MHz Band. He will add the crystal and the passive components, and a trace PCB antenna.
It is a wireless sensor for industry that will detect light. Goal is 5K units/year. The range must be a few hundred meters.Do you recommend CC1310 or any other more recent device for the application?

CC1310 sound like a good solution based on t he products we have out now.

You can use CC1310 as RF SOC and OPT3004 as light sensor.

Good day.

Just a follow-up question from the customer. They were wondering if a Zigbee solution like our CC2520 would allow for a longer battery life than the CC1310 component? In a mesh, they could tolerate a range of 130 feet. Can that range be achieved with the CC2520 and a trace PCB antenna on the same PCB?

CC2520 is old solution and it’s recommended to use CC2652R for new Zigbee design. It’s no problem to have 130 feet line-of-sight radio coverage using CC2652R running Zigbee application.

Second YK here. The CC26xx series has lower power consumption that CC25xx.

Is our Zigbee SubGHz mesh network compatible with the CC26xx series or does it use a different family of products? What is the maximum range of an individual hop in the Zigbee SubGHz mesh network?

The CC26xx family is 2.4 GHz only and can therefore not run a Zigbee SubGHz mesh network. For SubGHz solutions you should look at the CC13xx family.
