WL1831: New design suggestions

Part Number: WL1831

I have a customer who is new to the wireless space and could use some design suggestions.

The application includes several nodes all communicating to one central node independently of any existing network.

A few initial questions from the customer:

1) How should the decision of 1 or 2 antennas be made?

2) Does a dual antenna module require a physical separation distance? (Some models of their device family are small- 6” x 6”)

3) What kind of certification has been done on these modules? What additional testing will they need to perform as the customer?

Appreciate any guidance!

  • Hi Ethan,

    1. The advantage of MIMO systems is significantly higher data rates. Also, when 2 antennas are used, WiLink8 uses MRC for extended range

    2. The distance between the two antennas must be greater than half the wavelength (62.5mm at 2.4GHz).

    3. Visit this page to see which regions are supported for every WL8 module. We recommend the customer consult with their regulatory test house to under what additional testing is required when leveraging the module's certifications.
