CC3235MODAS: About McASP PCM support

Hi experts.

My customer is considering adding a wireless function (Wi-Fi) to an existing product and is considering combining an existing CODEC IC (cannot be changed) with CC32xxMODx.

Is it possible to send/receive the following PCM data using the CC3235MODx/CC3220MODx?

  • PCM interface code format: μ-law PCM (G.711 [64kbps]) / 16bit Linear PCM (2's complement)
  • PCM interface sync format: Long frame sync format / Short frame sync format

    Does the customer need to send and receive PCM data at a sampling frequency of 8 kHz? Plus could the customer use only the Short frame sync format or does he need both Short and Long frame format?

    I will be looking into the device limitations to see if it the 64kbps rate is possible, but Chapter 12 of the Technical Reference Guide also explains the "Inter-Integrated Sound (I2S) Multichannel Audio Serial Port" of the device.

    Thank you for your reply. And sorry for my late reply.
    The purpose is to send and receive phone voice over Wi-Fi. The existing products are as follows.
    Code format: G.711u-law PCM (Long frame)
    Sampling frequency: 8KHz
    Bit rate: 64kbps

    From now on, 16bit Linear PCM (2's complement) will be used.
    Since the sampling frequency remains 8KHz, I think the Bit rate will be 128kbps.

    Does the customer need a very low bit rate, and why? Because the CC323XMOD clock frequency can only be configured to a minimum of 234.377 kHz, which means it cannot use a frequency of 8KHz. 

    For the Long frame synch format, it should be possible to apply it by using the stereo signal to simulate the frame synch. You can look at our SimpleLink Audio Plugin for some audio examples in our devices.

    Sorry for the late reply.

    The customer does not want to change the CODEC IC, so I wanted to make sure that the CC32xxMODx can adapt. I will share the clock requirements and Plug in information with the customer and let them decide through actual evaluation.
