CC3135: External Flash

Part Number: CC3135
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: UNIFLASH

Hi,

I ran into a problem while selecting the external flash for my CC3135 module.

When I used a 16Mbit SPI flash the Uniflash can recognize the storage capacity as 2048KB as below picture shows. The flash part number is MX25R1635FZUIL0 from Macronix.

But when I replaced it with a 32Mbit flash, it doesn't recognize the storage capacity. It shows N/A. The flash part number is GD25WQ32EEIG from GigaDievice. And this part is recommended from this document by TI.

The service pack I programmed to the flash is "sp_4.10.0.1_3.7.0.1_3.1.0.26.bin".

Can you help with this?

Thanks,

Evan

  • Hi Evan,

The Formatted Capcity is 4096KB which reflects the 32Mbit or 4MB and Available for User Files is 3500KB.

Are you running into any issues?

  • Hi Seong,

    Thanks for your reply.

My project did work when I replaced the 16Mbit flash with a 32Mbit flash, but my concern is why Unifalsh did not recognize the storage capacity for my 32Mbit flash? We are not sure if this will cause other issues.

Here's an update: we used another 32Mbit from Macronix, the part number is MX25R3235F, this time Unifalsh can recognize the storage capacity as 4096KB.

Do you have any ideas why this happened?

    Regards,

    Evan

  • Hi Evan,

I'm not sure what the difference is between Storage Capacity and Formatted Capacity, but it is correctly showing the Formatted Cap and available space.

I would not worry as this serial flash was tested with the CC3135 and was validated to work.

    BR,

    Seong
