LAUNCHXL-CC3235SF: What hardware to use to develop for CC2650MODA and CC2654MODAE

Part Number: LAUNCHXL-CC3235SF
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC2650MODA, , CC2564MODAEM, CC2564C

Hi Team,

Good day! I need your help about the best fit hardware to use to develop for CC2650MODA and CC2654MODAEM for our customer.

Our customer is developing a Bluetooth communication between TI MCUs. The general architecture is multiple (around 5) peripheral BLE MCUs, that send signals read by them to a central MCU that supports both BLE and Bluetooth. It will use BLE to get data from peripheral modules and Bluetooth to communicate with a phone application.

Currently they have a LAUNCHXL-CC3235SF, CC2650MODA (to use as a peripheral MCU) and a CC2564MODAEM (to use as a central MCU). Could you plesae suggest a board to develop this? As far as I know it will be hard to develop and debug CC2650MODA without some kind of launchpad.

Should we choose another MCU that will better fit the design of the customer?

Best regards,

Jonathan

  • Hi Jonathan,

I will follow up here this week.

    Thanks,
    Jacob

  • Hello Jacob,

Can you help me with this question in the meantime please

    Thank you,

    Maxim

  • Hello Jonathan and Maxim,

Does the customer have to use the CC2564MODAEM? This is a Dual-Mode Bluetooth 4.0 transceiver; I recommend the CC2564C instead which is Bluetooth 5.1 compliant. You are correct, this transceiver does need an MCU as a host. For the CC2564C, I recommend an STM32F4 as the host MCU. If the CC2564MODAEM really is essential, then I recommend the MSP-EXP430F5529 as the host MCU.

Does the customer have questions on the CC2650MODA? This is a part that belongs to the BLE team. If you have inquiries on this part, I can include the BLE team in this thread.

I think you are probably aware of this already, but the LAUNCHXL-CC3235SF is a Wi-Fi only MCU and cannot host the Bluetooth devices.

    Thanks,
    Jacob
