We have a shipping product with the CC3220MODASM2MONR chip, and have a longstanding issue where some users connect to their home wifi network quickly and easily, and others are never able to connect. This creates lots of ill will of course. We usually end up shipping the customer a netgear router to plug into an ethernet port somewhere and then ask them to connect to that new wifi. Not ideal. The problem seems to happen with certain mesh networks like Eero. We've spent many hours trying to solve this in firmware to no avail. Mostly people tell us that this chip is problematic and we should re-engineer it. Brilliant idea: could we implement Matter protocol in firmware without changing the hardware, and magically fix our connectivity issues, and at the same time make the on-boarding smoother for everyone?

Hi,

You mentioned two topics that I do not see how they are related, unreliable connection and Matter.

Regarding Matter, we have a reference running on CC3235SF. This code runs on the application processor and there is no way to offload it to the firmware (or ServicePack in this case) since firmwre is in ROM and usually patches are used to fix bugs, not add features.

Regarding the mesh AP issues, is there a way to fetch out MAC/NWP logs? there are two dedicated pins that allows to get logs from the device.

In addition, what is the end product? is it line powered or battery powered?

Thanks, very helpful. The product is line powered. We ask the user to enter their wifi SSID and password from our app. Sometime perfect, sometimes, ni dice. We've read a lot about this chip and similar problems in things like Ring doorbells. My hope, in mentioning Matter, that this way of connecting might be more robust somehow, but I am not an engineer. Good to know you have a reference running! How can we get access? I would need to loop in my engineer also. Thanks.
