Hi,

In our product, we use WL1835MODGB and have enabled both WiFi & BLE. My question is -

Do we need to get the end product BT SIG certified to be able to use the BT/BLE logo?
I don't think we need BT SIG certification to use BLE as such, right?
Is it possible to use TI's BT SIG certification considering we are using the hardware/software from TI itself?

Hi FFatima,

1. Yes, the BT SIG certification would be necessary to use the BT/BLE logo. Please see the brand usage guidelines on the BT SIG website here: https://www.bluetooth.com/develop-with-bluetooth/marketing-branding/

2. I'm not sure I know what you mean by this. Could you clarify please?

3. There are different parts to a product qualification, but in general yes. There is the qualification of the controller as well as the stack. We have controller level qualifications for our devices that can be referenced and leveraged. If stick with our TI Bluetopia Bluetooth Stack, it also has Host and Profile qualifications needed for the overall product certification that could be leveraged. These can be found on the BT SIG LaunchStudio website.

As an FYI, we have a pretty good application note that talks about how to certify a Bluetooth device. It doesn't cover every device (like the WL1835), but explains the process well.

#2: I meant it is not mandatory to have BT/BLE certified to use BT/BLE protocol, right?

#3: Does this mean, as long as I reuse Bluetopia stack of yours (which I do currently), I can reference TI's BT Sig certification for controller, host and profile and I can then use BT/BLE logo on my product?

Hi FFatima,

You can't claim "BT", but I believe you should be able to use the protocol. Please refer to the BT SIG for specific guidance here.

You can leverage the controller qualification if you are using the device in general. For the host & profile, yes, you would be able to reference our IDs if you stick with our latest Bluetopia stack release. That should let you get the product certification and use the logo.

Thanks. One question - does this mean we don't need to go for BT-SIG ceritfication and can simply use TI's IDs and use the BT logo. Please help clarify.

Hi FFatima,

No, you still have to file the product qualification. It would just be done by inheriting from TI's IDs. Once this is filed and approved, then you would be good to go.

You must consult with a BQC though on this for official guidance.

Could you help me understand what/who is BQC? using TI's IDs would mean no testing and just about some paper work to get BT SIG certified or would it still mean full testing at BT SIG?

Hi FFatima,

It is a Bluetooth Qualification Consultant. They would be able to give you the best, official guidance.

Using them would mean limited to no testing and mainly just filing.
