CC3235SF: XDS110 vs. J-Link, J-Tag vs. SWD

I would recommand to use SWD, because you will save two valuable pins. Cheapest and most straight forward way is to buy LAUNCHXL-CC3235SF. You can start discovering CC3235S/CC3235SF with this LaunchPad. And when will be time move to your hardware you can use XDS-110 at this LaunchPad and connect it to your own hardware. You don't need to buy stand alone debug probe TMDSEMU110-U.

That's a good idea to use the launchpad. We'll probably have to buy a XDS110 for production or use gang programming but up to that point I'll try the lauchpad...

By the way, am I right, that there's no disadvantage, using LP-XDS110ET instead of TMDSEMU110-U (except for cabeling)?

Hi Chris,

Usage of TMDSEMU110-U is more problematic (controlling of reset pin for Uniflash programming) then usage XDS110 from LaunchPad.

For production programming you have more options - see production line guide.

That's interesting with the reset pin...

On the launchpad CC3235MOD there is J2. Pin 10 (XDS110 OUT) is  XDS_CC_nRESET. Isn't that just the same as routing "NTRST" from TMDSEMU110-U CTI-20 connector to the same pin of the CC3235 to be debugged using TMDSEMU110-U?

No this is not correct reset pin which is controlled by Uniflash software. It need to be pin PA6 from TM4C1294 chip providing XDS-110.

I guess TM4C1294 is inside the TMDSEMU110-U, right? I PA6 routed to one of the connectors?

Yes, TM4C1294 is inside TMDSEMU110-U. I think PA6 is routed via some voltage shifters to AUX connector. I am not able say which pin it is (schematic for TMDSEMU110-U is not publicly available). Maybe at some elders threads at E2E forum you can find a clue.

Ok, thanks Jan. It's not so easy... I ordered the XDS110. I'll try. It's probably either GPIOOUT0 (Pin 8) or GPIOOUT1 (Pin 10).
