WL1837MOD: WL1837 Spurious Emissions Testing

Hello,

we are using the TI WL1837 in a product SKU, and as part of RCM certification (AUS/NZ) we are required to carry out spurious emissions testing on our product as a whole, rather than relying on the reports provided from TI.

Here is what we need to test with our EMC partner:

Burst Transmit – Top, Middle and Bottom channels
Continuous Transmit – Top, Middle and Bottom channels
Continuous Receive – Top, Middle and Bottom channels

We found the TI WiLink Wireless Tools which looks like it can be used for this kind of testing, however we do not have physical access to the connectivity required for direct UART access from an external PC. Is there a test tool or another option on our product itself? To explain further, our product in Linux based and the WL1837 is already connected via UART for standard operation etc, is there a command line tool we can use for Linux to provide the functionality required for the above tests?

Alternatively, maybe we don't need a dedicated tool if there is another way to achieve this?

Hello Oz,

You are correct in your assumption, TI wireless tools has tools that can be used for certification testing. Normally for RF testing TI recommends using on of our standalone evaluation board setups for the WL1837MOD. The main eval board I am referring to is the WL1837MODCOM8I https://www.ti.com/tool/WL1837MODCOM8I and to test it standalone you will also need the WL18XXCOM82SDMMC board https://www.ti.com/tool/WL18XXCOM82SDMMC . On the web pages I attached here you can see the user's guides for both boards.

The main RF testing tool needed for RF certification is RTTT tool, and here is the user's guide for the tool. https://www.ti.com/lit/ug/swau085f/swau085f.pdf

If you are not using on of our eval platforms, then you can still use the RTTT tool with a design including the WL1837MOD, you just have to make sure you follow this hardware user's guide https://www.ti.com/lit/ug/swru437b/swru437b.pdf and specifically make sure the device is in debug mode.

In general there is a very large collection of application notes and user's guides on the WL1837mod tool folder https://www.ti.com/product/WL1837MOD under the section technical documentation so you can find more answers there. Another useful user's guide to look at is the WL18xx .INI file https://www.ti.com/lit/an/swru422a/swru422a.pdf which allows the user to define RF parameters for testing.
