WL1831: Help needed identifying the part number

Hello,
we need assistance in identifying the TI part number from image below. From the datasheet we know that WL18x1 chips are produced in DSBGA 130 balls package, but chip as shown on image has 168 balls and marking WL18 on it lead us to conclusion that it is WL18x1. Is this some variant of WL18xx chip that was produced initially or? Please let us know.

Greetings,

Could you expand upon why you need to know what IC it is, are you having other issues with your product? After referencing the WL18x1 Datasheet (https://www.ti.com/lit/swrs286) it seems to be a WL18X1 (as in WL1801 or WL1831).

Hello,

Thank you for getting back to us, the problem is as you can see, the ball count. WL18x1 comes in DSBGA130 (12x11 grid) but this chip has 168 pins (14x14 grid). Hence the confusion or TI used to produce these chips in different packaging? Second mark 2 is not 1 but character "I".

Apologies for the confusion, you are correct that this is a variant of the WL18xx. This is a custom automotive chip in a different package, reach out to your local sales representative to learn more.

Hello,
Thank you for getting back to me, yes you are correct this is automotive application. Does this mean it has different features from WL1831? All I need is pinout really as we want to replace it with the WL1831MOD. We dont have local sale representative in my country, what can we do?

The WL1831MOD has a different footprint completely, as such you would have to redesign the board for a WL1831MOD. You may refer to the product page https://www.ti.com/product/WL1831MOD for our technical documentation and Design tools & simulation references.

Hello,
I get that and its totally fine I have following questions:
1. would TI share the datasheet on this chip? What am interested is only pinout so how would I ask TI to provide this info for this custom chip?
2. is this custom automotive chip different internally or its just packaging?
3. we will design new adapter on which the WL1831MOD would be placed and then installed on original board assuming we get info from (1), (2), and assuming that Linux driver would be the same between these chips?

Hello,

1) To receive the datasheet and pinout information try asking the sales representative that you got the chip from. Unfortunately I cannot provide much information about it on the public forum.

2) I assume it is a tad different internally, but you would have to refer to the datasheet.

3) You should be able to design a new adapter for a WL1831MOD with the documentation provided on TI.com (i.e. WL18xx Module Hardware Integration Guide) and the design files from your current board.

4) I can only assume that it is the same linux driver, for more information on linux driver go to https://www.ti.com/product/WL1831MOD#software-development
