WL1837MOD: The WiFi get disconnected in the EMI/EMC chamber

Part Number: WL1837MOD

We have an observation that our WiFi is getting disconnected in the EMI/EMC chamber with RS (Radiated susceptibility) test setup, that too without applying any RS noise to the device. When we connect the power amplifier to the RS antenna, it gets disconnected. If we remove the power amplifier to the RS antenna, Wifi connects back. If we take our product outside the chamber, everything is working fine. Can you please help us to understand what is the root cause for WiFi disconnect in the EMI/EMC chamber.

Thanks

Siva

  • Hi Siva,

I would need some more clarification on when exactly is the Wi-Fi failing.

When the power amplifier is connected to the RS antenna and on the Wi-Fi fails? and this is before you start the signal generator outside of the chamber? Meaning that the Wi-Fi fails before you even begin radiating noise to the chamber?

The WL1837MOD passed certification for CE which includes this test, the certifications are online. I would recommend reviewing the certifications to see what their setup was in comparison to yours. It seems that the issue is with the setup you have for this test (Power amplifier, signal generator, antenna, etc.) because the WL1837mod works when its not in the setup.

Link to the WL18xxMOD certification reports: https://www.ti.com/tool/WL18XX-CERTIFICATION

I believe the specific certification report which concerns Radiated susceptibility (also called radiated immunity) is in this file.
