WL1831MOD: WiLink8 Linux software driver (Linux kernel 4.19.18) with AM67A processor SDK (Linux kernel 6.6.32)

Part Number: WL1831MOD
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AM67A, , CC3301, WILINK8-WIFI-NLCP

Tool/software:

Hi,

We plan to use the AM67A processor with the WL1831MOD WiFi chip to support WiFi synchronization (the CC3301 wifi chip does not support any WiFi time synchronization). The AM67A Linux SDK (PROCESSOR-SDK-LINUX-AM67A) is based on the Linux Kernel 6.6.32 (https://software-dl.ti.com/jacinto7/esd/processor-sdk-linux-am67a/10_00_00/exports/docs/devices/J7_Family/linux/Release_Specific_Release_Notes.html#kernel) and the current WL1831MOD drivers (WILINK8-WIFI-NLCP - WiLink8 R8.8) is based on the Linux Kernel 4.19.38.

In this post below, I see the engineer had to include 4 patches to the TI WiFi linux driver to work with the linux kernel 6.6.x

Has TI verified AM67A processor will work with the WL1831MOD WiFi chip or know of anybody who has this working? Will support for kernel 6.6.X (or higher) be officially supported?

The reason I am asking these questions, is we are currently building our custom AM67A processor hardware board and need to select its WiFi chip. Before I inform the hardware team to change WiFi chips, I would like to understand Texas Instruments approach on these modern processors with this older WiFi chip that is not end of life.

Thanks!

Mike
