BP-CC3301: How to measure Wi-Fi latency using BP-CC3301 and LP-AM243

Part Number: BP-CC3301
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LP-AM243, CC3301

Hello E2E Experts,

Good day.

I realized I had misunderstood something, so please allow me to ask again.
I would like to measure the Wi-Fi latency from the start of CCA to ACK reception using two BP-CC3301 modules, two LP-AM243 boards, and an oscilloscope.
I was thinking of using the BP-CC3301’s IRQ_WL_3V3 pin to toggle an IO signal at the start of CCA and upon ACK reception, but I couldn’t find detailed information about IRQ_WL_3V3.
Therefore, I’m not sure how to perform the desired measurement.
If you have any relevant information or references, please share them.
Information about similar or related measurement methods would also be appreciated.

Regards,

TICSC

  • Hello,

If i understand what the customer is looking for correctly, they would like to use WLAN_IRQ_3V3 to measure how long the CC3301 devices takes to transmit packets from when CCA is clear and when the ACK is sent back from the AP.

In this case, this is not possible. Customer cannot control this IO as it is controlled by FW.

I have seen customers test the latency of the wifi using throughput testing (iperf). This essentially tests how quickly the device sends packets, receives an ACK, then sends again. Guidance to how to run iperf if the customer is not familiar can be found here.

    Best,

    Josh
