CC3301MOD: Does TI CC3301MOD support backward BLE 5.x and 4.0 features, where its datasheet says it is certified with BLE 5.4?

Part Number: CC3301MOD

Hi TI expert,

The CC3301MOD datasheet says it is BLE 5.4 controller subsystem qualified. Does it mean CC3301MOD  is just BLE 5.4 only compliant with the core spec? Or are there any BLE backward features such as BLE 5.x and 4.0 included as well as below table?

PS: Notice that "LE Audio" is an option feature, right?

BR, Jesse.

  • Hey Jesse,

BLE in general is backwards compatible. Essentially when a connection happens, information is shared from the BLE central and peripheral saying which BLE versions are supported. From there, the central will select the lowest version supported to make the connection and use those features. So in theory, CC3301MOD can use backwards versions of BLE. Just keep in mind that the device does not support BT Classic or LE Audio features. It will only support the "necessary" features for BLE.

    Best,

    Josh

  • Hi Josh,

     Thanks for the sharing.
