CC3551E: Inquiry regarding CC3551 suitability for WiFi/Bluetooth Streaming Bookshelf Speaker project

Part Number: CC3551E
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC2564C, CC3351

Hi  Team,

Hope this email finds you well.

We are currently working with a customer who is developing a WiFi Active Streaming / Bluetooth Bookshelf Speaker. We are evaluating the TI CC3551 for this project and would like to consult with you to see if it can fully meet the customer's technical requirements.

Here are the key specifications for the product:

  • Wireless Streaming Protocols: AirPlay 2, Chromecast, DTS Play-Fi, and Spotify Connect

  • Bluetooth Specs: Bluetooth 4.2 with AAC codec support

  • Audio Resolution: Digital input supporting High-Res audio up to 24-bit/96kHz

Could you please help clarify the following points?

  1. Does the CC3551 hardware and its corresponding SDK support the above requirements?

  2. Are there any specific third-party software stacks or additional integrations required for AirPlay 2, Chromecast, and DTS Play-Fi on this platform?

  3. Do you have any reference designs or evaluation modules (EVM) that you would recommend for this type of audio application?

If the CC3551 is not the most optimal choice for these specifications, please feel free to recommend other suitable TI solutions.

Thank you in advance for your time and support. I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Best regards,

Mike

  • Hi Team,

Please help to provide comments. Thanks.

  • Hello Mike,

The CC35XX only supports BLE and not BT.

As for the protocol support, most of these are capable of using WiFi but the platforms reuquire LINUX and a lot of RAM. I do not think the CC35XX is right choice for this.

I would say to look into more of a LINUX host + WiFI transceiver (CC33xx) + BT (maybe the CC2564C which is BT 5.1 compliant)

  • Hi AB,

We plan to promote this system block to customer,

Please help to check if  the throughput of CC3351 can be used to transmit 24-bit/96kHz/5.1channel even 7.1 channel.

    Thanks.
