CC3301MOD: bootup the cc3301MoD issue

We have been trying to bootup the cc3301MoD but to no success so far.

When we try the same with the M.2 module (cc3301) everything works fine.

The IRQ pin is also handled correctly now;

The driver version is 1.7.0.203 and the linux version is 6.1.36.

The patches are identical to what we use for the M.2 cc3301.

Here is the logging we see once we try to boot up the device

It seems that the FW download gets stuck and fails.

Any pointers?

Have you encountered such before?

Sanity check - are you using a cc33xx-conf.bin file, cc33xx driver, and cc33xx firmware from the same software SDK release?

These components can't be mixed and matched. They must all come from the same release. Incompatible files will result in failures like this.

Hi Jan,

Could you please provide the device-tree files for both the m.2 card as well as the cc3301MOD? Additionally, what are all the hardware differences? What is meant by 'The IRQ pin is also handled correctly now'?

Hello,

My account doesnt have the permission to upload the dts files.

They are sent to Jan Bock who can perhaps add them here.

As for the IRQ pin;

It was connected through a signal level transceiver to a 3V3 compatible pin on the processor with pull ups on either side of the interface.

Removing the pull up, adding a pull-down config at start up and then using the in-band interrupt on SDIO line fixes the IRQ issue.

The HOST_IRQ_WL pin is a SenseOnPower pin. It is pulled low internally and MUST be low when the device powers up (at least on the CC3351, I assume also on the CC3301). If you were pulling it up, that probably was the problem.

I agree with what Dean has mentioned above.

The IRQ_WL must be 0 on power up. We show this in the datasheet, see description for pin 10 in the section 5.2 of the cc3301MOD datasheet.

Hello Sabeeh,

The IRQ was fixed by removing the pull up and configuring the pin on the processor end.

We see on the scope that the IRQ is behaving as expected.

As you can see from the logs, it is able to download the firmware;

However, it appears to hang right after and prints a message of "FW Stuck", the module is therefore not starting up correctly

Understood. We can investigate this further by collecting the Firmware logs from the LOGGER pin on the module. Are you able to provide this?

Hi Sabeeh,

I tried the logger pin, however it doesnt print / output anything.

I see that its a CSV file that populates / prepares some data columns but the data columns are empty.

Hi Muhammad,

The pin is certainly activated. Are you using the Simplelink wifi toolbox to collect the logs?
The baudrate is 3M and it is not human readable so hopefully you are not connecting to the pin by means of serial terminal? Can you check using a logic analyzer and make sure that the pin is printing something during the powerup?
