Background:

The stack for a WL1801 is being hosted on an AM3352. During a system idle mode when no data is being sent, the WiLink must maintain connections to any devices.

Problem description:

To extend standby battery life, we are trying to allow the AM3352 to go to sleep until it gets an interrupt from the WiLink. Our current understanding is that if there are users connected to the WiLink but no active data being sent, the host must remain on to support the stack. We can wake the host from sleep when data occurs, but it will have to reconnect to the various devices. Is there a way to allow the host to go to sleep without having to reconnect upon wake?

Hi Sarah,

The host can go to sleep with the WiLink8 maintaining the connection(s).

Are you referring to the suspend and resume mode? We want to avoid reconnecting once the host resumes from sleep. Below is from the user's guide, section 2.6:

2.6 Suspend and Resume

The WiLink8.0 chip enters suspend mode when the host decides to enter suspend and sleep mode. In this

mode, the WiLink8.0 chip is turned off, allowing for power consumption efficiency. Before entering

suspend mode, all configurations are saved. Upon resume (usually triggered by pressing the keyboard or

touching the screen), the device is turned on, the wpa_supplicant starts a scan and reconnects to the AP

(assuming there is a saved profile).

Unlike Station mode (wpa_supplicant), Suspend/Resume in AP mode requires restarting the hostapd

application.

Hi Gigi,

I will be responsible for this account while Sarah is out of office. We are trying to achieve the lowest power on Sitara + WiLink in AP mode both with clients connected and without.

Does the Linux WiFi driver optimize for power automatically?
How do you enable the AP ELP mode in Linux?
Does ECS have estimated power usage in this application?

Hello Ahmad,

The Linux Wifi driver doesn't optimize for power automatically - you need to configure it in the relevant config file

The power usage is dependent on the parameters you configure.
