CC3200STK-WIFIMK: CC3200STK-WIFIMK

Part Number: CC3200STK-WIFIMK
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC3200

HI, I am referring to an mail of Steven in which he wrote: When I try to connect my CC3200 STK-WIFIMK to IBM Watson IoT Platform using QuickStart, I get the following message "The device ID you have entered is valid, but we are waiting for your device to send us a message. Get your device to send us some valid data - we'll visualize it for you!" I can get the SensorTag to be ‘provisioned’ onto the local Wi-Fi network using the ‘Wi-Fi Setup’ page from my iOS device, but when I try to then connect to the IBM Watson IoT Platform using QuickStart, it never works.

Does anyone has a solution for this already? Like Steven, I have my sensortag connected to my local network, can see all values and can set all parameters, but connecting to Watson IoT is not succesfull.
The solution for this seems to be in the setting of the TLS, but I cannot find these settings in the sensortag or in Watson. Am I overlooking a menu item?

  • Hi H.A,

Is your CC3200 sensortag updated to the latest v1.003 firmware? The code running on the sensortag is not user-modifiable, so you won't be able to change the TLS settings from the sensortag side, if the Watson IoT quickstart service has been changed to require TLS.

You can however try using Watson IoT's registered service, where you create an IBM account + org, setup your watson org to not require TLS, and then connect your CC3200 sensortag to that. See the instructions here for information:
    developer.ibm.com/.../

  • Dear Michael, I referred to the item posted by:  "StevenLDuckworth (1) | 25-10-17 at 14:46 Sorry, but how do I get to the Security>Connection Security panel ("TLS Optional"). Is it on my phone, or on the IoT Platform? Please be as specific as possible. Thanks so much."

My sensortag is running on V1.003. I have it running in my own network, can access all data. I have an IBM Watson account, but I cannot find the menu item in which the TLS policy can be changed. I also have an IBM Cloud account. Even the registered service does not give me the option to set the TLS to optional.

What do you mean by IBM account + ORG? In the upper right corner it says: ID (Select org), I am not a member of an organisation in that menu item. How can I do that? Clicking on "sign-up" does not give me the possibility to do that. Am I overlooking something really simple? If so, sorry for that. Anyhow, thanks for your support

  • Hi H.A.,

You need to setup an IBM Watson IoT org in your IBM account first. There are some instructions in this TI Design guide which walks through all of the steps needed to get the org setup as well as your CC32XX device:
    www.ti.com/.../tidud09a.pdf
Section 3.2.1.1.6 has the steps of interest. You can ignore the first steps on setting up a node.js server, since that is not needed in this application. Once you have done that, in the settings menu there is a "Connection Security" option that controls whether TLS is required. If you set the default connection security level to "TLS Optional", then you will be able to connect with your sensortag.

Let me know if you need further help on getting that setup.

    Regards,
    Michael
  • Hi Michael, I have created everything like gateway according the manual. Changed to TLS Optional off course. But now I still cannot connect to my sensortag. In Watson it now displays myOrg in the upper right corner. As soon as I want to go back to Quickstart, it looses the ORG, and you cannot connect. Am I missing the clue?
  • Hi H.A.,

The steps in the TI design guide to create your new org allow you to connect your sensortag to your own Watson IoT instance, and not to the quickstart instance.

If you follow the linked guide:
    developer.ibm.com/.../

You should be able to connect your sensortag to your own IBM Watson IoT org, as a new device that you setup. This is separate from the IBM quickstart service.

    Regards.
    Michael
