CC3120BOOST: Connecting CC3120BOOST to EVM430-F67641

Part Number: CC3120BOOST
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MSP430F67641, EVM430-F67641, CC3120, CC3100, MSP430FR5969, MSP430F5529

How can we connect the CC3120BOOST to the EVM430-F67641 (Polyphase Electric Meter with MSP430F67641 SoC).

It has been quoted that there are "Add-on communications modules for wireless communications standards such as ZigBee®, Wi-Fi®, Wireless M-Bus, and IEEE-802.15.4g. Both 2.4GHz and Sub-1GHz." for EVM430-F67641.

But CC3120BOOST has a 2.54mm header compared with the 1.27 header for the EVM. Also pins dont seem to be compatible.

How can we use this CC3120BOOST with the EVM?

  • Dear Gautam -

On page 56 here ==>  you will find at the bottom left of the schematic the pinout for the EM headers on that MSP430 EVM.

the signal lines all have 0 Ohm resistors connected - if i may suggest, you could get the EM to BoosterPack Header BoosterPack

(i know its opposite of what is needed) and then plug in the CC3120 BoosterPack to it and then run wires from EM pins on that board to relevant pins on RF1 and RF2 pins on the MSP430 EVM.

Another alternative would be to use the  board and wire in same as above, but without the guide of the EM headers on both boards to guide you.

  • Hi,

If I may have a suggestion about software side. With MSP430 much better suits older CC3100 than CC3120. In CC3100 SDK is available SimpleLink driver already prepared for MSP430 (MSP430F5529 and MSP430FR5969).
