CC3200-LAUNCHXL: CC3200-LAUNCHXL

Part Number: CC3200-LAUNCHXL
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC3100, CC3200

Hello,

I have a question about the track width of the track going from the chip to the antenna. As i searched, on this board the antenna track is done as GCPW (Grounded Coplaner Waveguide). I downloaded the gerber files of CC3200-LAUNCHXL board and measured these parametars:

Track width: 0.46 mm

Gap between track and copper: 0.38 mm

Tickness of board: 1 mm

Relative Dielectric Constant: 4 (i took that value as a refrence)

With these parametars i get a impedance of ~80 Ω instead of the desired 50 Ω. Am i missing something? What is wrong here if in the datasheet of CC3200/CC3100 it says it should be the impedance of  50 Ω.

Thank you for your answer in advance.

  • Milan,

When calculating CPWG impedance, you need to use the conductor height and not the total thickness of the board. This refers to the distance to the GND reference (2nd layer on this LaunchPad), which I see is 8mils or 0.2mm. Try recalculating using this value.
