BOOSTXL-OV788ADAPT: Need alternate part for CC3200 simplelink camera module

Part Number: BOOSTXL-OV788ADAPT
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC3200

Hi,

We are trying to build prototype taking CC3200 simplelink module for video doorbell application. But the camera module OV788 provided as reference design in TI website is very hard to find and quite costly. Kindly suggest a relevant alternate part that is compatiable with CC3200.

Awaiting to hear back from you.

Regards

  • Hi,

There isn't a drop-in replacement for the OV788 that is compatible with the CC3200 TI design. There other other omnivision modules such as the OV798 that you can use, but there isn't a TI-provided reference example, and you will need to modify the CC3200 code as well as the hardware design in order to switch from the OV788 to another OV device.

Let me know if you need more clarification or have further questions on this topic.

    Regards,
    Michael

  • Hi,

Please suggest any other TI controller apart from CC3200, which can help us to build a video doorbell system and also share the TI reference design.

  • Hi,

Other than the CC3200, there are other parts in the same SimpleLink Wi-Fi family that you could use, such as the newer CC3220 and the CC3235. However, the issue you are having has to do with out-of-box support for a non-OV788 video encoder. Other than that CC3200+OV788 design, there is a CC3220+OV788 design which we provide. There are no other video doorbell reference designs with other TI parts, as the CC32xx line of products is TI's offering that is most suited to low power Wi-Fi use cases such as for video doorbells.

I advise you to take the OV788 as a base, and adapt it to the specific OV part or other video encoder part that you think is suitable with your desired system.

    Regards,
    Michael
