WL1837MOD: WL1837MOD wifi RX indicators is not satisfied with datasheet

Part Number: WL1837MOD

How do i turn  the WL1837MOD into test mode for verifing RX indicators by non-signaling?

because when i use R&S CMW500 by signaling, found that the WL1837MOD is not satisfied  and much lower respect to the datasheet(conducted RX indicators).   .

so,i want to verify if the problem is caused by RF hardware or driver(software) .

  • Hi There,

    Sorry to here you are having this issue. Can you help elaborate on the issue here. By how much are you failing? It this on TI HW or on customer HW? Are you trying to do PER testing? Please help to provide more details on your setup.

    Thanks,

    Riz

  • Hi Riz:

    As you say,  i'am trying to do PER testing by signaling by R&S CMW500  .but the result indicates that 2PCS WL1837MOD is not satisfied with datasheet(only 2 PCS is tested ).  accordind to the test result, 2.4G RX conduct indicator is lower by 4-6dB and 5G is lower  by 2-6dB. so ,can you provide some help to trouble-shooting ,such as RF TEST TOOL and relevant SOP ,TKS. because i want to verify if the result is caused by RF hardware or software.

    And test environment and phenomenon as follows:

    1、WL1837MOD  plugs into a ultrasound product and its' operateing system is android, and the wifi  module is designed by ourselfves(of course ,it‘s only some Peripheral components such as power and interface);

    2、WL1837MOD wlcore: PHY firmware version  : Rev 8.2.0.0.233;

    3、When testing the wifi module,   a phenomenon that  PER  curve seems to be halt or lost connection with CMW500. As a result ,the curve is ver laggy  ,so can i imagine that it will lost connection with AP in hospital easily when our ultrasound product is uploading patient's data .

    Tks,

    Daniel Tsien

  • Hi Daniel,

    Are you doing these measurements conducted or Radiated? For a baseline these test should be done conduced. Also when doing this test you need to have attenuation between the DUT and the CMW500 so that the test equipment is not driving a low signal where the accuracy is not as high. you want to be driving with an output of around 0dBm in this case.

    I would also suggest that you try and decouple the SW from HW for how. That is either use calibrator commands with the host or RTTT with the RS232 interface so that you can check the RT/TX performance.

    For calibrator, that runs with the host you can go here for commands: https://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/WL18xx. There is a section on calibration an testing.

    The other option you have is to use RTTT that can be downloaded here: https://www.ti.com/tool/WILINK-BT_WIFI-WIRELESS_TOOLS. Within this SW package you will find RTTT. You can use this in conjunction with the following:

    Thanks,

    Riz

  • Hi,Riz

    I'am very grateful to you for providing effective way to test RF indicators.  Now, i decide to take calibrator commands to troubleshooting, but two questions are puzzle to me,can you explain more presised.  two questions as follows:

    First, the command "  calibrator wlan0 wl18xx_plt start_rx <source address> <destination address> "  i can not make sure how to set "source address" and "destination address"  ,i guess that the "destination address" is bond with DUT MAC address and  "source address"  indicates the source that generates wifi packets. so, i want to get a accurate answer.

    Second, i don't konw the wl1837mod can indentify which kind of packets, namely, how to get the source that the module can indentify and take counters. now, in my labortary, the IQxel can generate wifi packets that  can be indentified  by qualcomm or broadcom chip. so, as to wl1837mod,  what is the condition ?

    Tks

    Daniel

  • HI Daniel,

    Fr the IQxel there should be an option to se the source address and this is what is used in the calibrator command. The desitaiotn address is the DUT address.

    Also there is no need to set up on the WL18xx side on the modulation it is receiving, the device will be able to figure this out and provided the appropriate statistics.

    Thanks,

    Riz
