CC3130: Does the CC3130 Internal RTC persist through reset? If not, are there any WiFi modules which have an internal RTC that persists through reset?

Part Number: CC3130
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC3100, CC3135, CC3120

One of my customers would like an all-in-one smart WiFi chip with a true RTC feature that works even through power-down or reset. It is my understanding that with the CC3100, RTC persists during hibernation (which is its lowest power state), but not during reset. Does the CC3130, CC3135, or any other WiFi module have an internal RTC which persists through power down or reset?

  • Hi,

I think there is some some kind of misunderstanding because request of your customer is technically not possible and not make sense. You cannot have functional RTC without some source of energy (we we not count RTC with integrated old DS1287) - when is power down. I think your customer want WiFi module/SoC which have input for backup battery (e.g. coin cell battery) for RTC backup. I am not aware about any solution at market from TI or any other manufacturer which will meet this requirements. Maybe exists some combination or RTC + WiFi SoC at single PCB, but not WiFi RF with such capability.

Usage separate RTC with coin-cell battery or supercar backup is always a better way and save many troubles. CC3130, CC3135, CC3120 works exact same as CC3100 at this meaner.
