CC3100: Using WiFi @ 2.5GHz instead of 2.4GHz with CC3100

The FCC has allocated the 2.5GHz spectrum for Native American tribes (see link below).  The CC3100 uses a 40MHz crystal as a reference for the WLAN interface.  Could the CC3100 operate 802.11n in this 2.5GHz band by simply changing this crystal to a "slightly higher" frequency.  That is, does this reference clock only set the carrier frequency or would changing this crystal frequency distort other RF parameters (e.g. modulation, spreading, etc.).   I
