CC3100: Using WiFi @ 2.5GHz instead of 2.4GHz with CC3100

The FCC has allocated the 2.5GHz spectrum for Native American tribes (see link below). The CC3100 uses a 40MHz crystal as a reference for the WLAN interface. Could the CC3100 operate 802.11n in this 2.5GHz band by simply changing this crystal to a "slightly higher" frequency. That is, does this reference clock only set the carrier frequency or would changing this crystal frequency distort other RF parameters (e.g. modulation, spreading, etc.). I

Hi Vince,

I understand that operating in this non-standard mode would not be supported by TI, but can you explain why it wouldn't work ? Is the 40MHz XTAL used for anything else other than the local oscillator ? If so, what other functions does the 40MHz XTAL affect ?

Hi Allen,

The part is designed for 2.4GHz -> while it might seem like a straight forward option, the issue is that all internal filtering and biases and based off the calibration and design for 2.4GHz.
