CC3200-LAUNCHXL: The TMP006 is not populated in CC3200-LAUNCHXL

Part Number: CC3200-LAUNCHXL
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMP006, TMP116, CC3200

Hi Team,

Our customer bought CC3200-LAUNCHX and upon running the out_of_box demo the temperature sensor is not getting initialized. Here is the error message when he run the program.

TMP006 sensor I2C ReadFrom failed
Error [-1] at line [1189] in function [main]
TMP006 sensor has error. Check jumpers on LaunchPad or TMP006 may not be populated.
Default temperature will be 76 degrees F

Upon checking the board, we found out that the TMP006 is not populated. I understand the the TMP006 had been obsoleted. Do we have alternative device?

Regards,

Danilo

  • Hi Danilo,

You are correct, the TMP006 is no longer available. On the CC3220 and CC3235 LaunchPads, we replaced this temp sensor with the TMP116, but this is not a drop-in replacement.

I recommend your customer considers development with the CC3220S LaunchPad instead, as the CC3x20/CC3x3x devices use our latest tools and software, along with many additional product features.

If they need to use the CC3200, the updated version of the Out of Box software in the CC3200 SDK is able to get past the temp sensor error. Use UniFlash v3.4.1 to flash the .usf file from the examples/out_of_box/html folder: https://www.ti.com/lit/swru558

    Best regards,

    Sarah
