Cannot connect to CC3200 LaunchPad ("Error connecting to the target")

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC3200, UNIFLASH

I have read through previous discussion and found a few occurrences of this topic. However none of the suggestions worked for me.

The CC3200 LaunchPad I got was an early version during which time the chip was advertised as "pre-production" sample. I had not tried to connect to it from CCS until recently. Could TI send me a replacement board to try out?

I was using CCS V6.0.1.00040. I was trying out the blinky project in the CC3200 SDK. I checked all jumper settings and target configuration to be the same as the setup document. However when I attempted to start a debug session, I got an error message "Error connecting to the target". In the console, it displayed a similar message "Cortex_M4_0: Error connecting to the target".

I tried to use UniFlash, again I got the error message "FATAL: --- Can't connect to device !!".

Thanks

Lawrence

  • Hi,

Have you made your CC3200 Launchpad to work before? Have you tried the Out of Box Demo Program using your Smart Phone?

  • Yes, the CC3200 out of box demo worked before. One of the LED (I believe it's red) was flashing when powered up. However as I was trying to connect to it from CCS, at some point I noticed the LED stopped flashing. From other posts I had read, I suspected the CC3200 chip was dead. Now the LED does not flash anymore.

BTW, the debug ports are recognized by my Windows machine, as verified from device manager. There are two USB devices and one COM port. The debug port LED on the LaunchPad did flash once as CCS was trying to connect to it. I believe the drivers have been installed properly.

I also have the LM4F120 and TM4C1294 launchpads, and have no problems connecting to them. I'd appreciate any help to get the CC3200 launchpad working for me.

    Thanks a lot,

    Lawrence
  • Hi Lawrence,

There are cases here whereas the CC3200 Launchpad became defective for whatever reasons and TI Engineer offered to replace those CC3200 Launchpad. But, the offer came after troubleshooting through here.

I have a CC3200 launchpad pre-production version and it is still working for me since I got it, many months ago. I just remove power to the CC3200 Launchpad whenever I remove or place jumpers. This is to prevent static discharge.

To isolate that there is really a problem with your CC3200 Launchpad, try to load programs to it at a different PC.

  • I tried on multiple PC's and it just didn't work. I have a TM4C1294 and LM4F120 launchpads and they work fine.
