Difference in using XCC3200HZ and CC3200R1M2 in prototype.

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC3200

Hello all,

I have developed a prototype for WiFi-based application using the CC3200R1M2 chip.
Actually i had some questions regarding the CC3200R1M2 chip and serial flash:-

1)The SWRU369A says "The CC3200 solution combines a 2.4GHz Wi-Fi PHY/MAC and TCP/IP
networking engine with a microcontroller, up to 256kB on-chip RAM (In XCC3200HZ and XCC3101GZ
devices, only 176kb of RAM is available for applications) and a comprehensive range of peripherals."

What is the rest 80kb used for in the case of XCC3200HZ ??
Will there be any difference if i use the examples from CC3200 SDK with CC3200R1M2 chip for my dedicated application ??

2)The serial flash on the CC3200 LaunchXL launchpad comes with TI images and data which is not accessible to the user.

In that case, if i use a serial flash bought from the vendor, will it have the TI images and data ??
Will it work in my prototype ??

3)Does the NWP require a higher supply than 3.3V??

Please reply.

Warm regards,
Abhishek.

  • Hi Abhishek,

Please find below responses to your queries

What is the rest 80kb used for in the case of XCC3200HZ ??
[Siddaram] As XCC3200HZ is a pre-production version 80 KB is used for internal purposes. In the production version you have access to full memory. Please refer "CC3200 ROM Services" of programmers guide for details regarding memory usage.

Will there be any difference if i use the examples from CC3200 SDK with CC3200R1M2 chip for my dedicated application ??
[Siddaram] You can use any of the examples from SDK as it is on CC3200R1M2. It is just that CC3200R1M2 has more memory for your application compared to XCC3200HZ

In that case, if i use a serial flash bought from the vendor, will it have the TI images and data ??
[Siddaram] All the serial flash which are part of CC3200 launchpads will have the TI SP and data preprogrammed, which you can update later on. For the sflash that you procure you need to do the programming.

Does the NWP require a higher supply than 3.3V??
[Siddaram] The specifications are part of datasheet, Please see if that helps.

    Thanks and Regards,
    Siddaram
  • Hello Siddaram,
Thank you very much for replying.
    That answers all my questions...

    Warm regards,
    Abhishek.
  • Hello Siddaram,
You said " For the sflash that you procure you need to do the programming."
Are you recommending about Service Pack Update here ??
Does Service Pack Update program the TI SP and data into the serial flash ??

    Please reply.

    Warm regards,
    Abhishek.
  • Hi Abhishek,

Yes you need to update the Service Pack update. Service pack is the only item that is required as a must.

    Thanks and Regards,
    Siddaram
  • Hello Siddaram,
