WL1807MOD: WL1807Q: SPI instead of SDIO for WLAN interface to uC/uP

Part Number: WL1807MOD
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: WL1835MOD

Dear Experts,
could You please let us know, if WiLink8 WL1807Q supports SPI protocol instead of SDIO as the WLAN data interface to a uC/uP?

Many thanks and best regards,
Gregor

  • You mean, interfacing to the micro-controller? Typically, Wilink is intended to be interfaced with a high end application processor, running the IP and 802.11 mac stacks..

    Thanks
  • Hi Hari,

yes, for example connect WiLink8 WL1807Q to uP running Linux or Android or QNX OS.
Normally we use SDIO interface for the WLAN interface and UART for BT/BLE.
Question is: Does WiLink8 support usage of SPI instead of SDIO as WLAN interface to uP?

    Thanks and best regards,
    Gregor

  • Hi,

Actually it is supported with wilink8 in mainline linux using wlcore_spi.ko instead of wlcore_sdio:

    For device tree bindings see:

  • Hello,

is there any documentation on this feature besides the linux driver?

I'm specifically interested in the required connections for SPI mode between WL18xxMOD (in my case WL1835MOD) and the µC (NXP i.MX6UL). What to do with the SDIO-CMD and the SPI-CS lines? How does the WL18xx know that it is expected to communicate via SPI?

Can you please provide an example schematic or a connection diagram?

    Best regards,

    Ralf

  • Hello,

There is a a document describing the SPI interface and command sequence but it is under NDA.
In case you are interested in signing NDA for getting it Please email us (eyalr@ti.com) and we will start the process.
