CC3220: I/O Pin Protection Diode Current when driven below ground.

Hello,

I was examining the maximum ratings for the CC3220 I/O pins. It seems there are some sort of protection diodes on the I/O pins because the min. rating is -0.5V. I was wondering how much current the diode could handle. This is only during a fault condition and I can keep it below 60uA with series resistance. Just trying to not have to add another diode on the board.

If it matters, I should mention it is also and ADC input pin.

Below is the feedback we received from the ESD team, let us know if you need anything else.

ESD diode current conduction (that become forward biased during signal switching) is +/-20mA under the absolute maximum ratings of VDDS for up to 100 hours of lifetime operation at a Tj of 105C. I/O overshoot and/or undershoot transients will have no significant impact on reliability up to 30% of VDDS and for up to 30% of the signal period.
