CC3100MOD: problems in updating the FW

Part Number: CC3100MOD

hi all,

we have an issue with CC3100MOD NWP firmware update.

We do update each CC31000MOD module through host MCU in customer's manufacturing process. So far, we didn't have any issues with this part.

Today i got one piece of assembled product for examination where NWP firmware update could not be completed.

Even though module was updated with service pack version 2.9.0.0, its versions remain the same as before update:

CC3100MOD 67108864

PHY 1.5.3.3

NWP 2.0.7.0

ROM 13107

I have to say that I never saw these versions before.

Generally, CC3100MOD versions out of package before update are like:

CC3100MOD 67108864

PHY 1.0.3.23

NWP 2.2.0.1

ROM 13107

So far, only one piece of final product was found with this issue.

Other product that were assembled with CC3100MOD modules from the same reel are also OK (so far).

See the photo of problematic module:

Any advice?

thanks a lot in advance

Vincenzo

  • Hi Vincenzo,

I am not 100% sure, but it looks like that inside this module is chip XCC3100HZ. That means pre-production silicon. Pre-production hardware is not supported by current SP versions. I think latest supported version is 1.0.0.10.0.
