CC3220-VIDEO-CAMERA-SOFTWARE: Software Supplied as Windows Executable

Part Number: CC3220-VIDEO-CAMERA-SOFTWARE
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TIDC-CC3200-VIDEO

Hi, I'm interested in and have downloaded the software. It's CC3220OV788videostreaming-1.0.0-windows-installer.zip, but in that is a Windows executable to install everything packed within it. I don't have any Windows machines and just want access to the source code to peruse. Please consider moving to a more platform-neutral archive format like a ZIP of the source code as otherwise it's an unnecessary hurdle to jump. Thanks, Ralph.

  • Hi Ralph,

We typically include installers for MacOs and Linux as well, but this is an older software package that has not been updated recently. Let us know if you need help accessing any files.

    Best regards,

    Sarah

  • Hi Sarah, I extracted the files by running the Windows executable with WINE on Linux.

I understand this is an old release of software, as you said, but for the modern releases what a Linux user wants is not an installer that's a binary blob to execute without knowing what it will do. They want a compressed tar file that they can process as data, not code, with a trusted program.

If any post-unpacking steps might be useful, e.g. udev recognising a USB ID, then they're done by a readable shell script in the tar file that can be examined before running. Otherwise, it's faffing about creating a one-off user to run the executable so it has no permission to do anything beyond that temporary user's account.

Can you please pass this on to the Linux-support side of TI's SDKs.

    Thanks, Ralph.
