CC3220MODA: What justifies the price difference between the CC3220MODA(F) and the ESP32?

Part Number: CC3220MODA

I'd really like to base a new design on the CC3220MODA(F) module. However, in evaluating this module vs something like the ESP32 the price difference (at less than 1k units) is phenomenal. For the MODAF, which has 4x less flash memory and a slower clock speed it's about 15(!) bucks per unit. For the ESP32 you can pick them up for around 4 dollars.

For comparison:

One thing that gives me pause is that the ESP32 has had recent security issues that do not seem to impact the TI line of products. The target price of my design is around 100 dollars and this one component can either be 4% of my cost or 14%. Even at 1ku (which I won't be ready to do for some time) it's still 9%. I would RATHER use an USA made chip so help me out. What factors justify the price difference with the TI chips?
