CC3235MODASF: What is Wi-Fi Direct Device Type ?

Part Number: CC3235MODASF

Hello.

I have a question.

What is the Device Type ?

In SWRU455J page 69 I read ...

The device type is published under
P2P I.E. The device type is part of the Wi-Fi Direct discovery parameters, and is used to better
recognize the device. The maximum length is 17 characters.

My Device Type is a measurement Instrument.

Is there a table for Common Device Type or I have to register my own Device ?

  • Hi,

This is just a parameter that enables something else to identify the type of device it is connecting to. Most likely it is not required for you to change. The example follows the following format:

    # Primary Device Type
    # Used format: <categ>-<OUI>-<subcateg>
    # categ = Category as an integer value
    # OUI = OUI and type octet as a 4-octet hex-encoded value; 0050F204 for
    # default WPS OUI
    # subcateg = OUI-specific Sub Category as an integer value
    # Examples:
    # 1-0050F204-1 (Computer / PC)
    # 1-0050F204-2 (Computer / Server)
    # 5-0050F204-1 (Storage / NAS)
    # 6-0050F204-1 (Network Infrastructure / AP)

    Best Regards,

    Ben M

  • So, for a measurement Instrument what value of Device Type you suggest ?

    1-0050F204-1 (Computer / PC) ?

And If I understand correctly ...

00:50:F2 is registered to Microsoft Corporation, right ?

  • Hi,

I think leaving the default for computer/PC should be fine. Your decision should be made based on your overall use-case and the other Wi-Fi direct products that you need to connect to your device. I'm not sure on the details of who that OUI substring is registered to.
