CC3135MOD: Evaluation environment

Part Number: CC3135MOD
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BOOSTXL-CC3135, SIMPLELINK-SDK-WIFI-PLUGIN, CC3135

Hello team,

Our customer is interested in CC3135MOD and customer is asking following inquiries.

Q1. Customer is considering to develop the system that is controlling CC3135MOD by external MCU. Is there any evaluation kit (CC3135MOD +MCU)?  As far as I checked, there is not any CC3135MOD EVM. TI releases just BOOSTXL-CC3135.

Q2. Is there External MCU-board for BOOSTXL-CC3135? TI recommends that customer is able to use MSP-EXP432P4111. Is that correct?

Q3. Regarding reference software(OS/driver) for external MCU, should we introduce SIMPLELINK-SDK-WIFI-PLUGIN_4.20.00.10(https://www.ti.com/tool/download/SIMPLELINK-SDK-WIFI-PLUGIN) ?

Q4. Regarding CC3135, I believe that customer does not need to create firmware of CC3135 and customer should create firmware for external MCU. Is that correct?

Q5. Regarding Japan RF regulation, according to CC3135 datasheet, CC3135 has MIC certification. If customer would like to change RF output power, should customer need to take Japanese re-certification ?

It is really appreciated if you will be able to share expert's comments on those inquiries.

Best regards,

Miyazaki

  • Hi Miyazaki,

    1. The CC3135MOD is the CC3135 device with integrated clocks, required SPI flash, and passives. The software and features of the CC3135 and CC3135MOD are identical. The customer can use the BOOSTXL-CC3135 for evaluation. Is there something specific the customer would like to evaluate?
    2. CC31xx devices are network processors only, meaning they require an external application MCU. The SimpleLink Wi-Fi Plugin provides drivers and examples for the MSP_EXP432P4111, MSP_EXP432P401R, MSP_EXP432E401Y, and CC26X2R1_LAUNCHXL, but the host driver is designed to be portable to any MCU. See the Porting the Host Driver section of the NWP Programmer's Guidefor details on this process.
      1. If the customer is interested in a device with an integrated application MCU instead, please check out our CC3235 and CC3235MOD devices.
    3. Yes, the SimpleLink Wi-Fi Plugin contains the host driver, servicepack, and examples based on the MCUs listed previously. I suggest starting with the CC3135 Out of Box Experience in SimpleLink Academy.
    4. Exactly. The CC3135 has the Wi-Fi and internet stacks integrated, and the host driver is used to control it. The Device Overview in the Out of Box experience explains this further.
    5. Please see the SIMPLELINK-CC3XXX-CERTIFICATION page for all certification resources and requests.

    Best regards,

    Sarah
