CC3000 SimpleLink Wi-Fi under Linux

CC3000 SimpleLink obviously intended for use with low cost MCUs but can anyone provide guidance on using it in an embedded Linux application?
I have a requirement to add an existing CC3000 based board to Sitara or equivalent MPU hardware that is runnining Linux.

Would welcome any advice available in this regard...

Thanks for your quick response. My requirement is specifically using CC3000 Wi-Fi hardware (not WL127x) with Linux 3.30 Kernel.

It looks like you are advising I start with the Platform Independent CC3000 Host Interface driver and modify this for use with my specific Linux platform?
I'm looking for the Linux-specific details if someone has gone through this exercise before...?

Hi Peter,

CC3000 in Linux is uncharted territory and is possible, although difficult due to the TCP/IP stack in the Linux kernel. You would need to override the Linux IP stack and do everything manually. For a simple application this may be possible but any routines that use anything in the kernel, it will be tough. WL1271 would be much easier to use in regards to the software; is there a reason not to use this module?

Hi Peter,

The CC3000 uses its own API, called SimpleLink, and all of the stack operations happen in the CC3000 itself, as you probably know. As far as using it with Linux, I think it would be a matter of hooking the CC3000 to a serial port, and then calling the SimpleLink API's rather than the Linux ethernet drivers. Have you looked at the demo code for the CC3000 that we have for the MSP430? I would expect it would be implemented in a similar way.

I am not a Linux expert by any stretch of the imagination so I am probably overlooking something that would make this a lot harder than it sounds!

I agree with Leonard that the WL1271 is probably a better fit here, without knowing the details of your implementation.
