CC3120: 802.11ah

Part Number: CC3120

I am interested in a development platform to prototype an 802.11ah transceiver (MAC and PHY).

What chips/development platforms do you recommend?

  • Hi,

If I am not wrong, IEEE 802.11ah is not supported by any TI part currently.

  • Let me clarify: I am not looking for a part that that already has 802.11ah functionality. I am interested in a part that we could program with 802.11ah functionality (PHY mainly) that we would develop on our own. Alternatively we could modify 802.11g/n/ac code that already exists on a current TI part (e.g. CC3120) - is that even possible?

    thanks your help!
  • Hi.

I am not sure if any TI Sub-1 GHz chip can support modulation used at IEEE 802.11ah. CC3120 is not possible use for this purpose, because it is chip with 2.4GHz radio.

    I think you should ask at Sub-1 GHz forum ( e2e.ti.com/.../ ).

  • Website says that CC3120 supports sub-1 GHz. Am I reading that wrong?

Question was asked in Sub-1 GHz forum and someone said that those parts could not support 802.11ah.

    thanks again!
  • Hi,

CC31xx/CC32xx devices are only 2.4GHz at present time. There is no way how to use CC3120 at sub-1 GHz.

Information at product webpage "The CC3120R device is part of the SimpleLink™ microcontroller (MCU) platform which consists of Wi-Fi, low energy, Sub-1 GHz and host MCUs, which all share a common, easy-to-use development environment with a single core software development kit (SDK) and rich tool set." is a marketing description for overall SimpleLink family. It does not describe any particular device.
