CC3100MOD: How to identify a CC3100MOD is pre-production version or not?

Part Number: CC3100MOD

My customer purchased a batch of CC3100MOD from TI store for developing, but they found that the module can only work with servicepack 1.0.0.10 or before, not with later servicepack, therefore they suspect that the modules are pre-production version.

How to tell from the silkscreen of CC3100MOD a module is pre-production or not? I have found a post saying the CC3100MOD could come with a XCC3100HZ inside. Is it possible the module purchased from our TI store is a pre-production version?

Hi Shuyang,

That module was manufactured at 41 week of 2016. It is very odd that such old module were shipped from TI store at recent time.

When did you place the order for these?

Can you describe the way the device fails with newer service packs?

Hi Vince,

The customer placed the order on ti.com.

The module fails to connect to a certain AP (which is a Huawei router) with the new service packs, but with the old service pack 1.0.0.10, the connection is fine.

Hi Shuyang,

I have confirmed with the product team and while this is an older module, its not pre-production and should work as expected. The issue you are describing sounds more like an interoperability issue than a hardware issue.

Can you capture NWP logs or Wi-Fi sniffer logs so we can dig into this issue? I will also add our SW apps team to assist further.

Thanks very much for you help!

The customer has tested with multiple versions, the failure comes with NWP version 2.13 and 2.12, and 2.11 and before works fine.

I will ask the customer to provide the NWP logs and get back to you.
