LAUNCHXL-CC3235S: Trouble Running RadioTool Application

Part Number: LAUNCHXL-CC3235S
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC3120BOOST, , CC31XXEMUBOOST, UNIFLASH, CC3235S, CC3200, CC3100, CC3XXXRADIOTEST

Hi all-

I've been trying to get the RadioTool application up and running, but I'm having some trouble and I don't know where the problem is.

I'm currently using the LAUNCHXL-CC3235S, CC31XXEMUBOOST, and CC3120BOOST boards as described by the User Guide for the RadioTool application.

I've downloaded Uniflash, and have been able to successfully flash the CC3235S (though I'm not certain it is correctly flashed).  For the flash, I am using the sp_4.9.0.2_3.7.0.1_3.1.0.26.bin service pack update.  I'm using the certcatalogPlayGround20160911.lst and certcatalogPlayGround20160911.lst.signed_3235.bin certificate catalogues, and the dummy security certificates (dummy-root-ca-cert, dummy-trusted-ca-cert, and dummy-trusted-cert).  And again, when I try to flash the board, I don't get any error messages.

However, when I go to the RadioTool application, I cannot connect to the board.  When I try to make the connection (CC3200 UART), I get the following error message:

I've tried flashing the CC3235S with different service packs and trying to change some of the other settings, but I haven't been able to figure out what's going wrong here.  If anyone has any insight, I would much appreciate it.

  • Hi,

It appears you are trying to use the CC3100/CC3200 radiotool with the CC3235.

Please use the latest release of CC3XXXRADIOTEST, which has support for the CC3235. You can download it here: https://www.ti.com/tool/download/SIMPLELINK-CC32XX-SDK

Do note that you will need to flash corresponding firmware onto your CC3235 device before you can connect to radiotool. The firmware file to provide can be found in /Source Files/Precompiled Binaries of the radiotool distribution.

Let me know if you still encounter connection issues with the latest radiotool.

    Regards,

    Michael

  • Hi Michael-

I've previously downloaded the SDK that you suggested I download.

According to the readme file of the Radiotool software I have, it's version 1.2.  Is there a more recent version I should be using.

As a tangential note, the readme file also has a suggested SDK version to use (1.2.0) and a suggested software patch to use (1.0.1.6-2.6.0.5).  I've tried using those before without success, but I'm not certain if it is necessary to be using those specific versions or if more recent versions are also acceptable.

  • Hi,

Unfortunately the radiotool version naming is confusing. There are two different radiotool products - one for the older CC3100/CC3200, and one for newer CC3XXX devices.

The v1.2 you are currently using is for the older products and is incompatible with your CC3235. Please download the new v.1.0.3.16 of the CC3XXX radiotool, from the link I provided in my previous post.

    Regards,

    Michael
