Why does ZC association response “PAN access denied”？

Hi all :

there are two ZR and 40 ZED .

Two ZR were joined the network at first.

and then i add those ZED into the network one by one .

but when i add the 36 , there is a association response “PAN access denied” and i could add any new node ever。

and i try to add a new ZR to enlarge the network， but it also response "PAN access denied".....

1. Is that mean there is not more room for the new node in this network ???

2. when we setup a large network（more than 40 nodes），should we adding the ZR first ？

3. if the ZR is power off ，and other ZR and ZC is full of children ，how does those child node will be ？

1. Yes. It seems the association table is full.
2. Yes, it is recommended to add ZRs first.
3. Those child nodes would be in orphan status and keep sending beacon requests to rejoin network.

as the question 3.

while those node sending the rejoin request， i found that they could not success to join the network， it seems other parent node could not access them ！

If you're sure the association table is not full, I think it is bug of Z-Stack.

Dear Mr. YiKai Chen,

Do you have any news about addressing this bug?

I'm experiencing the same issue as described here with Z-Stack version 1.2.1.
I still don't have consistent reproducible procedure but it happens sometimes after adding 10 to 15 router devices to the network I reach moment when coordinator sends Association denied message.

Attached is traffic logpan access denied_PANID_E9D8.zip:

Frame 4157: Opening network
Frame 4215: Starting scanning
Frame 4279: It can be seen that association table is not full
Frame 4296: Association request to coordinator
Frame 4309: PAN access denied message from coordinator

PAN access denied is usually caused by association table full. I have no idea why it shows there is still end device/router capacity but it gives you PAN access denied. Do you check association table of your ZC when this happens?

Hi, thank you for your quick response.

We didn't pay attention to association table state when issue occurs (I doubt this is problem in our case but will investigate this and let you know).

Are you assuming that there might be issue in stack for Router/End-device Capacity flag in beacon message from coordinator? Have you noticed anybody else complaining about this?

I had seen reports about rejoin fail on obsolete Z-Stack. If it is possible, I would suggest you to use latest Z-Stack 3.0.

Hi, at the moment we cannot cut the support for nodes with non 3.0 Z-Stack. Therefore migration to 3.0 it's not an option for us.
When you say "obsolete" can you indicate which Z-Stack versions are treated as obsolete and which are supported? Is there any versioning support policy from TI on this topic?

When there's a new release, the previous version would be regarded as obsolete. The latest Z-Stack Home version is 1.2.2a. I cannot speak for TI policy so hope someone from TI can help you out.
