CC2530: Doesn't Z-Stack 3.0.1 support SPI interface?

I did notice that the SPI interface isn't included in the Z-Stack 3.0.1 ZNP Interface Specification. However, the code for SPI protocol is still included in the Z-Stack 3.0.1 SDK. Does it mean that the SPI protocol is still workable? Or the SPI code is completely not worked?

Hi Todd,

The SPI protocol is indeed still included and used for LCD control of the Home Automation projects. Therefore is not too much overhead is involved with getting it to an operable state.

There are more than 3 threads in the forum describing that the user failed to communicate with the CC2530 through the SPI protocol. However, those threads were closed without any solution. If the SPI issue only needs some fine tune to make it work as you mentioned, we are wondering why TI doesn't fix it in the new SDK release.

Although the SPI protocol is still included and used in the Home Automation project, we are wondering whether the same code could be completely applied in the Z-Stack 3.0.1 SDK.

Do you know why TI remove the SPI protocol from the latest ZNP specification?

Hello Todd,

UART is the preferred method of communication protocol for Z-Stack 3.0.1 which is why TI is not "fixing" it. That is to say that the SPI protocol is still included and not "broken", as I've mentioned before it is still used to control the LCD for SmartRF05EB EVMs. Code similar to HA 1.2.2a could be applied to Z-Stack 3.0.1. There will be some debugging involved to ensure that the changes implemented are successful.
