CC2531EMK: CC2531EMK fails to work

Part Number: CC2531EMK
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: FLASH-PROGRAMMER, CC2531, , PACKET-SNIFFER, CC-DEBUGGER

When starting SmartRF Packet sniffer software I get a SnifferAgent error:  Autostart Warning "No devices are running as expected. Please check configuration of devices"

This is a new dongle, and new software install.  I followed the install instructions carefully.  The TI driver did install and shows it "Working properly"

  • Hi Rich,

Are you sure you have the right FW on the dongle? Do you have a CCDebugger so you can program it?

    Regards,
    Fredrik
  • Hi Rich,

Please confirm that you have properly programmed the CC2531EMK with sniffer_fw_cc2531.hex from C:\Program Files (x86)\Texas Instruments\SmartRF Tools\Packet Sniffer\bin\general\firmware using FLASH-PROGRAMMER and a CC-DEBUGGER, and that your are evaluating with PACKET-SNIFFER v2.18.1. What version of hardware is the CC2531EMK and have you used it before?

    Regards,
    Ryan
  • This is brand new to me. Fresh install and new hardware, I only have theCC2531Dongle . No other hardware.
    The dongle says Model: CC2531Dongle, (DK)Rev:2.4.0, SN:00008B, Date 1747.
I searched my c: drive for the sniffer_fw_cc2531.hex file, I don't have it.
I believe that the dongle arrived blank, so the Smart RF Packet Sniffer2 software can't see it. Where can I get the hex file and how do I re-flash the dongle? Can it be done with out other hardware?
  • I think I have some progress the device works with TI packet Sniffer 2.18.1. I don't know why I originally downloaded "SmartRF Packet Sniffer 2".
  • If you download and install TI packet Sniffer 2.18.1, you can find sniffer_fw_cc2531.hex from C:\Program Files (x86)\Texas Instruments\SmartRF Tools\Packet Sniffer\bin\general\firmware
