CC2592: Presence or absence of spectrum spreading (frequency hopping) functionality in CC2592RGVR

Part Number: CC2592
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: Z-STACK

Hi experts,

The CC2592RGVR is a 2.4 GHz band wireless IC, but does the IC itself use spread spectrum (including frequency hopping) technology as a wireless technology?

The customer uesing, and this information is necessary for export compliance .
As I understand it, the CC2592RGVR is an RF front-end IC made by TI, and does not have spread spectrum or frequency hopping functionality on its own; these technologies are implemented in the connecting wireless protocol (e.g. BLE, Zigbee), but I would like to know just to be sure.

Best regards,
O.H

  • Hello O.H

The CC2592 is a RF front end Range Extender, I assume you already have another device attached to the CC2592 and that device is using DSSS (ZigBee?).

Quoting another response to DSSS on another thread:

"DSSS is included in Z-Stack kernel" - So assuming that your other device that is connected to the CC2592 uses Z-stack you should see DSSS on the range extenders output.

    Thanks,
    Alex F

  • Hi

    Thank you for your reply.

    Just in case.

In other words, the CC2592 IC alone does not have the DSSS (assuming it's Zigbee) functionality, so it cannot output a signal. Is my understanding correct?

    Best regards,
    O.H

  • Hello O.H,

The CC2592 alone is an rf front end, there is no signal generation at the CC2592.

The CC2592 needs to be connected to another device, and that device produces the signal (in your case DSSS) which is fed into the CC2592, see the diagram below for reference:

does the IC itself use spread spectrum (including frequency hopping) technology as a wireless technology?

Your device connected to the CC2592, a MCU (or transceiver) would have the support this PHY; then that device will connect to the CC2592, and in that case the CC2592 can support it if the MCU supports it.

    Thanks,
    Alex F

  • Hi Alex F,

Thank you for your kind supports. I understood.
