FCC Compliance for CC2480 + CC2591 using reference designs

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC2591, CC2430

Hi.

I'm having some trouble with FCC compliance for a design using the CC2480 with CC2591. Reports given by the EMC test lab stated that "EUT failed the FCC Part 15.247 spurious limits.”

It appears there are some spurious emissions on the side-bands. I've been able to confirm this for myself on a spectrum analyser.

The TI reference design was followed very closely.

AN063: Using CC2591 RF Front End with CC2430

Attached is the schematic for the RF section.

The unit is using SYS_RF_TEST modes for the purposes of EMC testing, could this be part of the problem? Spurious emissions appear on all different Tx power settings and on both modulated and unmodulated modes.

It operates on Channel 11 - 2405MHz

Has anyone experienced something similar or have any suggestions on how to overcome this?

Please find a screen capture of the problem below.

Thanks,

Raf

  • The schematic you posted does not contain all the required information. The routing etc for the power pins on CC2591 is critical. To be able to look closer at this we would need the full schematic and the gerber files for the layout. If you don't want to post it directly to the forum you may send me a friend request and send me the files offline.
