Hi,

I am facing problem in rejoining of end device after power reset. Initially ZED is joined to ZC. Later i power recycle ZED. ZED is not able to join to ZC even though NV_RESTORE is defined on both ZC and ZED. ZED connects and disconnects and sends beacon. The process repeats continuously. Later i do factory reset of ZED and now ZED is able to connect. This process i have tested multiple times by power resetting ZED and all the time i get the same result.. Here i have attached sniffer log for reference.

As can be seen in sniffer log, initially zed is not able to connect. Later i do factory reset at ZC(packet no around 25) after which zed gets connected and sends packet. Later i power reset my zed(packet no. 108) after which zed tries to connect but connection is not established. Later i do factory reset again (packet number around 285) and zed connects again. Same problem exists for every power recycle of zed.

You can refer to the discussions in e2e.ti.com/.../1905093 which suggests you adding the following code right before calling ZDOInitDevice(0) in ZDApp.c.

Do you modify anything on thermostat (coordinator) and temperature sensor (zed)?

Not much changes. Changed some compile option on both zed and zc. added code to read temperature and create event at zed to send every 10sec. Also added some code to factory reset device on key interrupt. These are the major changes i have done what i remember.

If you use original SampleThermoStat and SampleTemperatureSensor, do you still see this issue?

Hi Yikai Chen,
I had tested with original z-stack code for my ZC and revised the code in ZDApp.c as stated above. Now ZED is able to join the ZC after power reset. I have another doubt. My zed is connected to zc. later i power reset zc. In this case zc is not able to connect with zed. after i power reset zed, it connects again. Can you please tell why it happens?
Do i need to revise the code in ZDApp.c for zed and router also?

1. Do you have sniffer log for this issue?
2. Yes, you should revise the code in ZDApp.c for zed/router and test again.

Here is log for the behavior when zed is not able to connect again after zc is power resetted and later connects when zed is power resetted. I have revised the code in ZDApp.c for my zed also for which this is the log. For this log, my zed is loaded with my old code while zc is loaded with new stack code. I will revise zed code with new stack code and see if the problem is still there.

Hi Yikai Chen,
I had tested by loading original z-stack with little modifications as stated before like changing the compile options,adding code to interrupt based factory reset etc but still getting the same problem. After the zc is power resettted, it doesn't acknowledge to the beacon request by zed. After i factory reset zc, its able to connect with zed.

If original examples doesn't have this issue but you see this problem after your modifications, I can only suggest you to check your modifications one by one to know which one causes this issue.

Hi Yikai Chen,
Finally i am able to find the problem of such behaviour. I had enabled interrupt to one of the floating pin. Interrupt was occuring again and again and this was leading to the problem.
Thanks for your suggestions.
I want to measure RSSI value of the received packet and also from a remote device. Can you please suggest how to do this?

You can use ZDP_MgmtLqiReq to get LQI value and use it to calculate RSSI.

I tried to send following MT command and i am getting following response

ZDO_MGMT_LQI_REQ SREQ:- FE 03 25 31 B0 46 00 E1

ZDO_MGMT_LQI_REQ SRSP:- FE 01 65 31 00 55

ZDO_MGMT_LQI_RSP:-AREQ:- FE 06 45 B1 B0 46 84 00 00 00 80

There are so many fields for ZDO_MGMT_LQI_RSP as given in datasheet. Can you please tell if there is any mistake in sending request? If not then which byte will correspond to the LQI value in the response received above.

The sniffe log shows your device doesn't support LQI request.

So what do i need to do to make the device support LQI request? Do i need to make any configuration changes or something like that? I have already defined MT_ZDO_FUNC and MT_ZDO_CB_FUNC in my compile options for zed and zc.

Just for clarification, i want to know this. I am not using binding. Does it have to do anything with this request? I am using direct addressing. I am trying to debug. The packet is received in ZED. Looking in detail why and where its failing to send response.

I am getting LQI and RSSI in afIncomingData() while zed sends data every 10sec. I am getting following values
Link Quality -0x7B
correlation - 0x6C
RSSI-0xD8.
Can this value be used for signal strength? I want to display in GUI similar to mobile signal when the zed is going to away with decreasing strength and near to the zc with increasing strength.

Hi Yikai Chen,
I am using CC2530+CC2591 module(STR-CC2530-1738A) at both my coordinator and end device. I am using sample thermostat and temperature sensor example. I have defined HAL_PA_LNA on both. My ZED gets disconnected after a distance of 20-25meter. Do i need to make any change in configuration for power transmitted or any other configuration changes to get the maximum distance?

If you define HAL_PA_LNA in Z-Stack, it would use 20 DBM as default TX power. However, I don't know if your CC2530-CC2591 HW is good enough for this. You can call API "macRadioSetTxPower(16);" to change it to output 16 DBM to see if there is any improvement.

Hi Yikai Chen,
I had called the api in init function. I am testing range. Up to 25-30 meters it communicates. after that it disconnects. In sniffer i can see end device sending beacon for longer distance also up to 40 meters Here i have attached sniffer log. Can you please check and tell why it disconnects? After the device comes to 25 meter range it connects again.

Now i am using long external antenna some 8dB also but still i am not getting long range. zed sends beacon after disconnection, zc also sends superframe but they get disconnected after around 30meters

No. Its CC2530-CC2591 readymade module which i have got from outsource in china. this module is also mentioned in some of TI website. www.cecb2b.com/.../zfa_20488120141121_1416551179157204881.PDF
As seen in the sniffer log, zed sends beacon and zc acknowledges also but the get disconnected. i am able to get beacon packets from up to 50meter distance using these antenna but device is not in connection.

By the way, I can easily get more than 100 meters line-of-sight connection distance when I use our own CC2530-CC2591 design.

no. Under building. I know walls and other considerations will be affecting range in building. But more concern is for disconnection even though packets are received

Ok. Tomorrow i will have test for line of sight. But before that can you please suggest idea how i can do this test i mean if there is any tool or how can i detect that device has gone out of range.Now i am checking using the rssi value received in af_incoming_msg packet and also by looking into different types of packets captured by sniffer. For line of sight testing i will not have pc for this test scenario. which api i will get that device has got associated and which api i can find that it has got disconnected? in that i will toggle led to find that device has got connected or disconnected.

I would suggest you to use SmartRF Studio 7 to do PER test on this CC2530-CC2591 module first. See what's the PER using this module when it is 30, 50, 70, and 100 meters line-of-sight distance.
